COLOMBO (News 1st); Former Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Chandima Weerakkody has called for the dissolution of the current Government and go for an election that will be funded by an organization that is capable of supporting such a process.

"I am not saying to use the funds of the state for an election. Afghanistan's election was held by the European Commission. There are organizations that are committed to securing democracy and will financially support such efforts," he told reporters on Tuesday (26).

"There are no conditions when such organizations are brought in. Sri Lanka must also NOT bow down to such conditions," he said.

Chandima Weerakkody said the cost for an election on a weekday will be less compared to a weekend election.

Chandima Weerakkody further said that the Parliament is responsible for the present situation in the country, and urged the President to agree with his proposal for an election.

He said when people allege that the Government is making zero attempts to solve the crisis, they do not have any answer to the people.

"The people have lost faith, We need a government that is accepted by the people and the international community as well," he said.

The Former Deputy Speaker said the only option is to call for a Parliamentary Election funded by an organization committed to holding elections and to use the money owned by the state for the importation of essentials.
