COLOMBO (News 1st); The State Ministry of Consumer Protection is taking steps to reintroduce price controls for essential food items.
State Minister of Consumer Protection, Dr. Gunapala Rathnasekara stated that discussions on the matter will be held with the Finance Minister next week.
However, Dr. Rathnasekara also adds that the depreciation of the rupee against the US dollar has impeded reintroducing price controls, adding that the special focus will be directed towards the matter during the meeting with the Finance Minister.
The public have been severely impended due to the removal of price controls on essential food items including rice, wheat flour and milk powder.
