Power Cuts are likely until reservoirs reach capacity

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) noted that the power supply will have to be suspended from time to time until the reservoirs reach maximum capacity from the rainfall experienced at present.

The General Manager of the CEB, D.C.R Abeysekara stated that 25% of electricity is currently generated from hydropower plants, adding that 900 MW will be added to the National Grid from the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant.

Abeysekara noted that the other power plants are currently receiving the necessary stocks of furnace oil for electricity generation.

Meanwhile, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) stated that the Ceylon Electricity Board was allowed to suspend the supply of electricity for 3-hours and 20 minutes on Friday (22) as well.
