19A will be re-introduced with 'certain amendments' - Prime Minister

COLOMBO (News 1st) Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa had promised to reduce the sweeping powers of the president.

The premier told parliament on Tuesday (19) that he would re-introduce the 19th amendment to the constitution, “with certain amendments,” as a possible “temporary solution.”

He said following this process, with the blessing of the President, a new constitution can be created.

The prime minister said he was aware of the citizen’s suffering and called on “everyone to work together to resolve the crises.”
