One hour school extention for 139 days

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Education announced all Government and Government approved Private Schools and Piriven Institutions should hold classes for 139 days with the extension of the school hours by 01-hour per day.

Accordingly, for Sinhala and Tamil Language schools, classes should be conducted for an additional half-hour for Grades 01 to 04 and an additional 01-hour for Grades 05 to 13.

Moreover, the Education Ministry also announced that if it is difficult to use an extra hour on Fridays since religious activities are conducted in Muslim schools, the relevant period should be covered on other school days.

The Education Ministry further noted that students should be given an additional 10 minutes for the interval, during the additional one hour of classes.

This can be done at the discretion of the principal, said the Ministry.
