Opposition questions presence of armed masked riders

COLOMBO (News 1st); The incident where a group of armed men dressed in military attire who arrived on off-road motorbikes at the parliamentary complex where protests were being staged on Tuesday (5) was discussed during the parliamentary session held on Wednesday (6).

"Peaceful protests took place around the Parliament. Then we saw the presence of armed masked uniformed men in bikes," he said while demanding that details of the group be made available to the house.

"Are they are separate gang or group? Are they members of a secret military? We need to know about this," he said.

Also commenting on the matter, Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Manusha Nanayakkara said a group that arrived in this manner assassinated Veteran Journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge.

SJB MP Former Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka said he does NOT accept the presence of Army Riders during a protest close to parliament on Tuesday (5).

He called on for an investigation to determine if the team of Army Riders arrived on their own or if they were sent to the location of the protest.

At the same time, the Former Army Commander strongly condemned the actions of the Police Officers who were seen berating a uniformed soldier in the presence of the public.
