COLOMBO (News 1st); A protest held against power cuts and the sale of National Resources by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Joint Trade Union Alliance took place on Wednesday (6).

The main protest was held in front of the CEB head office.

CEB Joint Trade Union Alliance Convener, Ranjan Jayalal said people have been compelled to pay for electricity at a time when there is NO proper supply.

"The Rajapaksa family looted this country and today we cannot even pay the salaries of the CEB workers," he alleged during the protest.

Joint Secretary of the CEB Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya (CEB-JCC) Ajith Devapriya said that the vessel with a shipment of coal for the Norochcholai Power Plant has reached Sri Lankan shores, however, Sri Lankan cannot access the shipment due to the shortage of US dollars to settle the payment.

He also alleged that a 70-year-old Chairman of the CEB has sold off national resources by signing agreements with US-based New Fortress Energey Inc.
