6,000 MT of gas reach SL on Saturday (2)

COLOMBO (News 1st); A heated situation arose at a gas queue in Puttalam on Thursday (31) night.

News 1st Correspondent said that this situation arose when the Litro gas distributor for the area informed them that he had run out of gas stocks.

The Colombo-Puttalam main road was blocked for about an hour due to the protest by those who were not able to obtain gas.

Sri Lanka Police intervened to control the situation and the crowd dispersed with a promise that gas will be delivered on Friday (1).

Laugfs Gas Chairman W. K. H. Wegapitiya speaking to News 1st said that a gas tanker with 6,000 MT of gas will reach Sri Lanka from the Middle-East on Saturday (2) and this shipment will be sufficient for gas distribution for the remainder of the year.

However, the Chairman of Laugfs stated that the letter of credit required to release the gas stocks of this vessel have not been opened as yet.

At present, there is a stock of 2,000 MT of gas in the Hambantota port and only 2,000 cylinders of gas are released daily.
