Court halts cabinet decision on Sirisena's residence

COLOMBO (News 1st);  The Supreme Court issued an interim order suspending the decision taken by the Cabinet of Ministers allowing Former President Maithripala Sirisena to continue using the residence located down Mahagamasekara Mawatha, Colombo, even after retiring from the presidency.

Court also issued an order preventing officials from acting in accordance with the said cabinet decision, and also noted that the order will come into effect four weeks from today.

The order was delivered by a Supreme Court bench comprising Justice P. Padman Surasena, Yasantha Kodagoda, and Mahinda Samayawardena.

The order was made after considering an application filed by the Centre for Policy Alternatives, and its Executive Director Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu.

The matter will be called up again on the 18th of May.
