COLOMBO (News 1st); The Bay of Bengal Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation or BIMSTEC — the regional organisation exclusive to the Bay, will open in Colombo on Monday (28).
The Ministry of External Affairs noted that the conference will be held until the 30th of March 2022.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will preside over the BIMSTEC Summit on 30th of March 2022.
Senior officials and Foreign Ministers from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, and Thailand are expected to attend the BIMSTEC Senior Officials Meeting and Cabinet Meeting to be held on Monday (28) and Tuesday (29).
Meanwhile, Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jayashankar arrived on the island on Sunday (27) night.
During that visit, he will attend the BIMSTEC Summit and hold discussions with the Sri Lankan Authorities.
The Indian External Affairs Minister is in Sri Lanka following an unannounced visit by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to New Delhi.
Meanwhile, the is scheduled to open a cultural center in Jaffna on Monday (28) through online technology.
