Kush and ecstasy worth Rs. 32Mn seized by Customs

COLOMBO (News 1st); Officers of the Sri Lanka Customs Narcotics Division seized kush and ecstasy pills valuing close to Rs. 32 million today (24).

The drugs were seized when Sri Lanka Customs Narcotics Division officials checked eight parcels on suspicion of containing narcotics during surveillance duties at the Central Mail Exchange.

The parcels were shipped from Britain, Canada, Germany to residents in Colombo, Gampaha and Kandy. Subsequent investigations revealed that these were fake addresses.

The parcels contained 1590 g of cannabis named 'kush' and 601 pills containing methamphetamine commonly named ecstasy.

The arrest was made by the officers of the Narcotics Division of the Sri Lanka Customs with the assistance of the officers of the Postal Department. The seized drugs are due to be handed over to the Narcotics Division of the Sri Lanka Police for further investigations.
