COLOMBO (News 1st); The water levels of reservoirs near power stations have decreased, the Ministry of Power states.

In a release, the Ministry of Power stated that hydropower generation of the country will be further disrupted due to this situation, which was caused due to the dry weather experienced currently.

This was observed when the remaining water levels of reservoirs were already at a low level.

Accordingly, the water levels of Castlereigh, Maussakale, Samanala wewa, Kotmale, Victoria and Randenigala reservoirs are low, which will disrupt the hydropower generation of the country.

Sri Lanka is already grappling with the issue of fuel and gas shortage, which affected the electricity generation of the island, that led to power cuts lasting 7 hours being implemented almost daily.

The authorities previously stated that they expected to depend upon hydropower electricity generation due to the existing fuel and gas shortage.
