COLOMBO (News 1st); The Gammadda Movement took a small step towards helping ordinary Sri Lankans forced to stand in queues by distributing chilled bottles of water at selected locations around Sri Lanka. The effort is led by the Gammadda V Force Volunteers, who stepped up at short notice to help ease the burden of people standing for hours in queues in the scorching heat.

The volunteers made sure that used bottles were collected and removed responsibly as well.

“It made a huge difference to the people we were able to help. Especially the elderly. We are really appreciative of those who came forward to support this effort…”, noted Chevaan Daniel, Group Director.

Many ordinary citizens and organizations came forward as soon as the call went out, to support the water distribution effort, including American Premium Water.

Day one (March 21) saw distribution take place at selected queues in Colombo, Kandy and Matara, while the effort is set to expand today and through the coming week/weekend.

“Sri Lankans have always stood for each other at times of need. Even now, when most people are really struggling, many come forward to help others. That’s what makes Gammadda loved; it’s led by the people…”, noted Gihan Udyoga, the young V-Force Lead at Gammadda.
