Unusual demand for fuel in March 2022, says Sri Lanka's Energy Ministry

COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka's Energy Minister said the demand for fuel was at a high in March 2022, compared to December 2021, and January & February 2022.

Energy Secretary K. D. R. Olga said that the demand for fuel showed an unusual pattern in March 2022.

She said that fuel stocks were ordered for March based on the usual fuel requirement, and the necessary shipments have also reached the country.

The Energy Ministry said that another tanker with 40,000 MT of Diesel, which has been paid for already, will reach Sri Lanka on Tuesday (21), while another tanker with 20,000 MT will reach Sri Lanka in due course.

The Energy Ministry has informed the relevant authorities to submit daily reports on the queues witnessed at filling stations in the country.

It added that the present situation had arisen as the public had stockpiled fuel in an unnecessary manner.
