Shots Fired in Ratmalana : Suspect Hospitalized

COLOMBO (News 1st); Shots were fired during an attempted robbery at a restaurant in Ratmalana on Monday (21) night, said Sri Lanka Police.

Police officers had opened fire when the suspect had attempted to attack them.

The suspect had arrived in a Motorcycle with a machete had attempted to rob the restaurant in the Ratmalana area.

Police Spokesperson, SSP Nihal Thalduwa said the restaurant staff had attacked the suspect and snatched his machete.

Thereafter, the suspect had fled the scene in a three-wheeler by threatening the driver with a knife.

SSP Nihal Thalduwa said two Police officers had chased after the suspect on a motorcycle adding that Police opened fire when the suspect attempted to block other vehicles and attack the police officers.

The suspect was hospitalized thereafter.
