Red alert issued for depression over Bay of Bengal

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Meteorology has issued a red alert for the depression over southeast of the Bay of Bengal.

Accordingly, the low-pressure area over Southeast Bay of Bengal has concentrated into a Depression and lay centered at 08.30 a.m. on 20th March over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea.

The Meteorology Department says that it is likely to move nearly northwards and intensify into a Deep-depression by 21st March 05.30 a.m. and into a cyclonic storm on the same day.
