COLOMBO (News 1st); The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) says that a decision will be taken next week on the requests made regarding the increase in electricity tariff.
Chairman of the PUCSL, Janaka Ratnayake stated that the Ministry of Power and Energy has requested the Public Utilities Commission to allow an increase in electricity tariffs.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Power and Energy states that the electricity tariff most definitely be increased, as the Secretary to the Ministry Wasantha Perera stated that there is no other option to take in consideration of the increase in fuel prices.
She added that by increasing the electricity tariff, the ministry will be able to cover the fuel costs to some extent.
