COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Energy states that it has requested India to provide the required fuel stocks to Sri Lanka expeditiously.

A senior ministry spokesman said that India had requested for the stocks of fuel, in line with the loan agreement between India and Sri Lanka, which was recently signed.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Energy has requested India to provide the relevant stocks by March as per the order made on February 27th.

However, according to the loan agreement with India, the relevant stocks of fuel should be used in Sri Lanka within 5 months, the Ministry said.

Its senior spokesman said the stock of fuel can be fully used before the end of May, given the current situation.

According to the loan agreement, a ship carrying 40,000 metric tons of diesel is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka tomorrow (20).
