COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka will be able to procure essential goods now that the USD 1 billion Line of Credit with India has been signed, says Minister Bandula Gunawardena.
Expressing his views in Jaffna regarding the agreement signed by the Minister of Finance and the future course of action, the Minister said that he instructed the Secretary to the Ministry of Trade to look into the releasing of the shipments of goods that have been held in the port so far in accordance with the agreements signed by India.
Accordingly, we will be able to procure essential consumer goods, medicines and raw materials for industries imported from India within the next two weeks without any exchange difficulties, the Minister said.
Thereafter, the Ministry will publish advertisements for which importers have to register. Once registered, arrangements will be made with the Ministry of Trade and the Customs Department to import the required goods without any crisis, he added.
