Sri Lanka exploring alternative routes to export tea to Russia & Ukraine

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lanka Tea Board stated that it is studying alternative methods to export tea to Russia and Ukraine.

The chairman of the Tea Board, Jayampathy Molligoda said that discussions were held with tea exporters on the matter to explore alternative methods, as the Russia-Ukraine war has had an impact of directly shipping Sri Lankan tea to those countries.

Accordingly, the possibility of exporting tea through China or the Gulf Nations during the shipping process is being explored, said Jayampathy Molligoda.

Meanwhile, with the devaluation of the Russian ruble, citizens of those countries will have to pay a higher price when buying Ceylon Tea.

The Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tea Board further said that a solution will be found for the benefit of both countries, taking into account the situation that has arisen due to the devaluation of the ruble as well as the rupee.
