Basil in India to seek credit assistance, says Rohitha

COLOMBO (News 1st); Minister of Ports and Shipping, Rohitha Abeygunawardena believes a US $ 2 billion Indian credit facility will come into effect on Wendesday (16), with Finance Minister Basil Rakapaksa meeting Indian officials in New Delhi.

While admitting that Sri Lanka is facing a fuel crisis, the Minister said that the Finance Minister is in India for financial assistance, to make purchases for fuel, medicines and food that cannot be produced locally.

He further stated that after the fuel ships arrive in the country, the shipments will be delivered to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and the shortage of fuel will gradually disappear.

He said that when the Opposition protest saying there is "NO fuel", the general public panic and start gathering fuel unnecessary, leading to a chaotic situation.
