COLOMBO (News 1st); Leader of the Democratic Left Front, Vasudeva Nanayakkara said that they never wanted a citizen from a foreign nation to be allowed to enter into parliament via the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.

"We spoke with the President about it and made it clear that we will not vote in favor of the amendment. The President told us that the 20th Amendment is NOT being moved to bring Basil into the fold, and is merely a policy decision," he told reporters at a media briefing of the ‘Taking The Nation On The Correct Path’ movement in Colombo.

Nanayakkara said that after Basil Rajapaksa was brought in as the Finance Minister, it was understood that an agenda to impose the US needs in the Indian Ocean region was in play in Sri Lanka.

At the same time, the Leader of Pivithuru Hela Urumaya, Udaya Gammanpila said that if the Government limited exporting essential goods in 2020, the people would not have to suffer, as they are doing today.
