Relief methods were discussed at the Cabinet meeting: Minister Lokuge

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Minister of Energy, Gamini Lokuge states that ways to provide relief to the public were discussed at the Cabinet meeting held yesterday (14).

Speaking to the media following the meeting, the Minister says no final decision was reached in this regard, however the Cabinet of Ministers have held lengthy discussions on the problems in the world market, issues which have arisen since the decision to float the rupee, the implications of oil prices rising in the world market, and the consequences on the economy following the decision to increase fuel prices in the country.

He explained that it was due to these factors that a decision was reached to increase bus fares.

When inquired, the new Energy Minister stated that a ship with a consignment of oil was currently being unloaded while another ship is en route.

However, he added that no discussions were held with regard to the prevailing shortage of gas in the market.
