COLOMBO (News 1st); The University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to increase the number of students allowed to enroll at medical faculties, in consideration of students who sat for the GCE A/L examination in 2020.
UGC Chairman Senior Prof. Sampath Amaratunga stated that 110 additional students have been allowed to enroll at medical faculties.
1,974 students who followed the Biology stream for the A/L examination in 2020 have been allowed to enroll at medical faculties already.
1,961 students who sat for the A/L examination in 2019 and 14,80 students who sat the A/L examination in 2018 had enrolled at medical faculties in the respective years.
The total number of students allowed to enroll at universities following the 2020 A/L examination is 43,500, which is a significant increase compared to the 12,000 students who enrolled for universities after to 2019 A/L examination.
