Current economic crisis premeditated : Mayura Gunawansa PC

COLOMBO (News 1st); Mayura Gunawansa PC, participating in the program 'Mawatha', alleged that the current economic situation was not caused by negligence and is a part of a plan.

Speaking at the program, he stated that this economic situation was not caused by a mere coincidence, and geo political interests and corrupt politicians played a hand at it.

Emphasizing that many members of the Government are people who have handled it for a long period of time, such as P.B Jayasundara who handled the Sri Lankan economy for more than 05 decades, Minister Bandula Gunawardena having experience of more than 20 years in the field, and the current CBSL Governor Ajith Nivard Cabral having experience of more than 20 years in the fields, PC Gunawansa demanded as to how these individuals could not have knowledge of handling the economic situation of the country.

He further stated that the very same people made arrangements to allow Government District Agents to give Sri Lankan lands for investment purposes, removed farmers from fertile lands, allowed crises to take place and evolve, and even created crises in sectors such as gas, milk powder, fuel and many other vital sectors in the country.

In the meantime, the President's Counsel pointed out that it can be observed that there is a new trend being of new developments being formed within the country, such as new Cement and Tyre factories were opened recently, in addition to the development of a steel factory.

Similarly, companies such as New Fortress through the Yugadanavi LNG deal started getting involved in the fuel and gas trades, thereby the Government created an atmosphere which allows countries like USA and India to play their geopolitical games and in the meantime, they are creating a business monopoly within the country.

However, he said, people have no knowledge of the real power behind all these investments and developments. Just as the people are unaware of the main shareholders of the company behind the New Fortress deal, people are unaware of the investors of the proposed steel company.

"Once this business monopoly is created within the country, the power will be in their hands... The Minister of Finance is the main actor and also the creator of this crisis," he added.
