Lokuge ensures end to fuel and electricity crisis

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka currently possesses a stock of 20,000 MT of fuel in its storage facilities, said the country's new Minister of Energy Gamini Lokuge on Wednesday (9).

He said as distribution makes progress, the people will no longer have to wait in queues for fuel from Friday or Saturday.

He stated that another 32,000 MT of fuel was unloaded on Wednesday (9).

Moreover, he said that the Ministry of Energy has taken steps to provide the Ministry of Power with the diesel for the operations of thermal power plants, which would gradually lead to an end in power cuts.

He stated that next by Monday (14) or Tuesday (15) the country will be able to return to normalcy with electricity and petroleum, without any issues.

He further said that by 15th March 2022 the country is expecting around 7 vessels with shipments of Diesel, Petrol, Fuel, and Jet fuel under Indian Financial Assistance.
