COLOMBO (News 1st); The gas shortage has increased to the point which the day by day functions of the public has been disrupted , in addition to the limited supply of essential commodities.
Most businesses were closed down due to the gas crisis which erupted a few months ago, and intensified in the backdrop of the foreign exchange crisis.
Many restaurants, in particular, were seen closed today due to insufficient gas stocks to perform daily duties.
When will the stocks of gas reach the market?
The unloading of gas from one of the three gas ships anchored at Hendala commenced this morning (08).
The stock of gas being unloaded is 2,500 metric tons.
This stock of gas is being transported from the Thaldiyawatta buoy to the Kerawalapitiya Litro Gas Company.
Is there enough gas to meet the demand?
According to the company, this stock is usually enough for 4 days.
However, given the prevailing demand, the company has concluded that the stock may run out sooner.
When will gas be unloaded from the other two ships?
Sri Lankan authorities have not yet received information on one of the ships anchored in Sri Lankan waters, while the other ship is awaiting payment.
Both ships contain approximately 5,000 metric tons of gas company.
