Police open fire at car transporting drugs, as it failed to stop

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police opened fire at a car that failed to stop despite being ordered to do so, in Kotadeniyawa on Monday (7).

Police Headquarters stated that the Police had received information that several persons involved in the heroin trade were traveling towards Kotadeniya in two vehicles while transporting heroin.

Accordingly, Police have set up a roadblock near the Nalla bridge on Monday (7) and inspected vehicles.

When the police ordered the cars to stop, one of the cars had accelerated defying police orders.

Police Media Division stated that the Police had fired at the rear wheel of the car to stop it.

The driver of the car had fled the scene and another person in the car had been arrested with 6g and 200mg of heroin.

Officers at the Nalla Bridge roadblock also stopped another suspicious car and arrested a suspect with 6g and 300mg of heroin.

The arrested suspects were aged 24 & 29 years old from Mirigama.
