Air Force gears to protect environment

COLOMBO (News 1st); Under the directives by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana commenced the Sramadana campaign on a major scale at Colombo area on 05th March 2022, with the active participation of over 3000 Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) members which in parallel to the 71st Air Force Day Celebration 2022.

The main target of this program is to eliminate the dengue breeding places and to keep the environment clean.

This meritorious act overall was coordinated by Director Ground Operations, Air Vice Marshal Janaka Amerasinghe to ensure the maximum output throughout the entire program.

Further, in collaboration with Dengue Prevention Programme initiated by Governor Western province SLAF drones were successfully utilized to spray chemicals to kill dengue larvae in identified unreachable breeding places in drainage canals.

The campaign segregated under four areas as Sector 1 comprising Colombo Central Bus Stand, Gunasinghepura Bus Stand, Bastian Mawatha Bus Stand, Sector 2 Fort Railway Station, Sector 3 included Maradana Railway Station, General Cemetery Borella, and Sector 4 covered with Beira Lake Surroundings near the Gangarama Temple, Surroundings of SLAF Station Colombo and Suburbs, Surroundings of SLAF Guwanpura and Suburbs and National Hospital Sri Lanka Colombo which were supervised by members of the Air Force Board of Management respectively.
