Depression over Bay of Bengal: Red alert issued

Red alert issued regarding Depression over south-west Bay of Bengal

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Meteorology Department states that the depression over south-west Bay of Bengal lay centered at 05.30 a.m. on 6th March 2022 near (11.2N, 82.2E), about 310 km Northeast of Trincomalee coast is likely to move southwestwards towards North Tamil Nadu coast.

Accordingly, tt will gradually weaken into a low pressure area during next 06 hours. 

However, naval and fishing communities have been warned not to venture to the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Mullaitivu via Kankasanturai, while those who are out at aforementioned sea regions are advised to return to coasts or 

moved safer areas immediately.

Moreover, naval and fishing communities are request to be vigilant during the activities in the sea areas extending from Mullativu to Trincomalee and Mannar to Puttalam and have been further requested to be attentive about future advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.
