Two more diesel ships due to arrive in SL, Energy Ministry says no petrol shortage

COLOMBO (News 1st); Two more diesel ships are due to arrive in Sri Lanka tomorrow (28), the Ministry of Energy says.

The Secretary to the Ministry, K.D.R. Olga stated that one ship is carrying 28,500 metric tons of auto diesel and the other is carrying 9,000 metric tons of jet fuel.

Moreover, another ship carrying 30,300 metric tons of auto diesel and 7,000 metric tons of super diesel is also due to arrive in Sri Lanka, she said. 

The ships are arriving in Sri Lanka from Singapore, the Energy Ministry Secretary said, adding that arrangements are being made to pay for the ships with the assistance of the Central Bank.

The Ministry further stated that a ship with 30,000 metric tons of fuel for power plants will arrive in Sri Lanka on March 8th.

Letters of credit have been opened for this purpose, and the cost incurred is about $ 20 million.

Meanwhile, after opening letters of credit worth $ 30 million, arrangements have been made to unload the 38,400 metric tons of fuel on a ship which had reached the country previously, and to unload the stocks of fuel tomorrow, followed by its distribution.

Accordingly, the Secretary to the Ministry of Energy, K.D.R. Olga said that there is currently no shortage of petrol in the country.
