EU places sanctions, UN cautions against Russian invasion while Ukraine attempts to defend itself

(News 1st); The European Union said on Wednesday (23) that it had imposed sanctions on a number of senior Russian officials, including Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and Economy Minister Maxim Reshetnikov, after Moscow recognized the independence of two separatist enclaves in Ukraine.

Another target was Andrey Kostin, chief executive officer of Bank VTB PAO,  Russia's second-largest bank. The EU made the announcement in its official journal.

Meanwhile, the United Nations General Secretary, Antonio Gueterres has requested for Russian President Putin to bring his trops back to Russia, in the name of humanity.

Moreover, the Foreign Minister of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba stated that Ukraine will defend itself and will win against Putin's aggression.
