COLOMBO (News 1st); Media Minister Dullas Alahapperuma on Friday (18) visited the Delft Island in the Jaffna Peninsula to donate a much-needed laptop with internet facilities to the J/Delft Saivapragasa Vidyalayam, in Jaffna.

The J/Delft Saivapragasa Vidyalayam provided education to 68 children and consists of 16 teachers.

Addressing the event the Minister stressed the need for all to join forces to eradicate the disparities in the education sector.

The Minister said that 25% of primary school teachers are untrained and 53% of the northern teachers are also untrained.

“This alone is enough to clearly understand the issue that we face,” said the Minister.

He went on to note that the government is taking measures to equip all 10,142 schools with internet facilities and necessary provisions were allocated from the budget, and this would revolutionize the education sector.
