Death of woman in Matugama linked to family feud, underworld gang

COLOMBO (News 1st); Police believes that a woman who was killed at a house on the Matugama Balika Road with a T-56 assault rifle was a result of a dispute between two families.

Police stated that they have received information that the suspects may have come to the house to kill the woman as a result of a feud between her husband and a relative.

The owner of the house who had witnessed the two criminals storming into the house to carry out the shooting managed to hide inside with his two children.

According to the police, the assailants had shot at his wife and fled, however, Police says that the suspects have visited the house to shoot the dead woman's husband.

Accordingly, Kalutara Crimes Division along with six Police teams have commenced investigations into the incident.

The body of the woman is currently deposited at the Kalutara Nagoda Hospital morgue, while Police suspects that the murder may have been carried out by a member of an underworld gang in the Matugama area.
