Olcott Foundations win Warnapura Memorial match

COLOMBO (News 1st); 

A Cricket match was held at the Mercantile Cricket Grounds, Colombo in memory of the first Sri Lankan Cricket Captain, Bandula Warnapura.

The Mercantile Cricket Association (MCA) has joined hands with Col. Henry Steele Olcott Sports Foundation to honour Bandula Warnapura at a friendly cricket match at the MCA grounds.

Furthermore, several veteran Cricketers participated in this tournament, while Bandula Warnapura's wife and children were among the spectators.

Batting first the Col. Henry Steele Olcott Sports Foundation posted 149 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs.

In reponse, the Mercantile Cricket Association could score only 127 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.

Col. Henry Steele Olcott Sports Foundation won by 22 runs.

In the meantime, former Sri Lanka Test captain, Arjuna Ranatunga stated that he was fortunate to play the first Test along with Bandula Warnapura.

However, he also slammed Sri Lanka Cricket, the apex body for Cricket in Sri Lanka for failing to organize a memorial for the late great Bandula Warnapura.
