Omicron Variant detected in almost 99% of Sri Lankan COVID cases

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's health ministry had warned that approximately 99% of the COVID-19 cases reported at present, are those who are infected with the Omicron variant.

A Senior Officer a the Ministry of Health told News 1st that the presence of the Delta variant is gradually fading away.

Earlier, the University of Sri Jayawardenapura also reported that the Omicron variant is the dominant variant in Sri Lanka.

The Health Ministry also told News 1st that the Sri Lankan hospitals posses the required number of beds for COVID-19 patients.

In addition, the Health Ministry dismissed claims that state there is a shortage of ICU beds for COVID-19 patients, as false.
