Dengue Prevention Officers continue to occupy Health Ministry premises

COLOMBO (News 1st): Dengue Prevention Assistants who forcibly entered the Health Ministry premises on Wednesday (9) are refusing to leave until their demands are met.

The Secretary of the All-Ceylon Dengue Prevention Assistants Association, T. A. Suranga Darshana told News 1st that a group continues to remain at the Health Ministry premises.

The protestors said despite working as dengue prevention assistants for close to five years their jobs have not been made permanent by the Health Ministry.

"We do everything in the health sector for Rs. 22,000/-. Now they are trying to deploy 847 of us for other functions as well. They employed us for 5 years and now are looking into our qualifications. People who only passed the 8th grade can sit in parliament, but they are looking into our qualifications," said the Secretary of the Association during Wednesday's (8) protest.
