COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka Police will take strict legal action against motorists who park on pavements dedicated to pedestrians, with effect from Sunday (Feb. 6). "Legal action will be taken against motorists for driving and parking on pavements causing obstructions, and loading or unloading goods on pavements that are dedicated for the use of pedestrians. Moreover, legal action will be taken against traders who conduct any business on pavements," Senior DIG Ajith Rohana, the Senior Police Spokesperson told News 1st. According to SDIG Ajith Rohana, such offenders will be dealt with under the provisions of the Motor Traffic Act, the National Thoroughfares Act, and the Penal Code. The Inspector-General of Police C. D. Wickremeratne has issued the relevant instructions in this regard to all Police Stations.
