8 Former MPs facing legal action over failure to pay fines

COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka Parliament has informed eight Former Parliamentarians to immediately pay the due fines for remaining at official quarters without permission. According to the Parliament's Administration Department, eight parliamentarians who were defeated in the previous General Election have failed to pay the fines charged for the failure to vacate the premises on time. Moreover, the relevant Former MPs have been asked for a second time, to settle the pending electricity and water bill payments, a high-ranking official at the Parliament told News 1st. According to the officer, the parliamentary administration is compelled to take legal action if the eight Former Parliamentarians disregard the reminders. A fine of Rs. 500 is charged per day for failing to vacate the official quarters upon the conclusion of the authorized period of accommodation.
