COLOMBO (News 1st); Former Minister of Energy Chandima Weerakkody says that the entire fuel and energy crisis looks like a charade.

Speaking to media, the SLPP MP stated that CEB engineers are well aware of how many months Sri Lanka can go on with its existing fuel reserves and and the quantity of hydropower that can be generated in the country.

Moreover, the MP pointed out that the Ministry of Power and Energy has a stock review meeting every week, during which electricity, petroleum, CPSTL, private power plants all come together to clearly discuss their future diesel and fuel needs, therefore all the authorities are aware about the necessity of fuel and electricity in the country.

Speaking further, he said that people need to be told the truth, if there is a crisis in this country.

"The people of this country are intelligent. They will understand when we tell them about the crisis," he added.

The MP added that the energy crisis should be perceived as the biggest crisis, as loss of power is one of the first factors that causes the economy to collapse. Therefore, while requesting a speedy solution to the power crisis, he requested those concerned to present that solution in a manner acceptable to the people.
