Rathgama Train Tragedy: Final rites of family of four on Wednesday (2)

COLOMBO (News 1st); The final rites of the four people from the same family who died under tragic circumstances following a three wheeler-train collision in Rathgama, Galle will take place on Wednesday (2).

Four members of the same family were killed when the three-wheeler which they were traveling in collided with the express train from Beliatta to Anuradhapura at the Boossa Wellabada railway crossing on Tuesday (1) morning.

Rathgama Police said the deceased were identified as Kalinga Jinadasa (father) (85), Kalinga Sunimal (son) (46), Lasika Kumari Mendis (wife) (48), and Manimeldura Amishamy(83) of Paranawatta, Boossa.

Police said they had been on their way to Galle to execute a Deed of Transfer and that the three-wheeler had been driven by the son.

Following the tragic accident, the train signal lights were damaged and malfunctioned are yet to be repaired.

Locals in the area blame Sri Lanka Railways for the accident, adding that they have no faith in the system.
