COLOMBO (News 1st); Currently, prices of food items are high due to the fertilizer and dollar shortage in Sri Lanka.
Prices of vegetables and fruits have risen to unbearable levels for the middle class due to decreased supply in the market.
In such a situation, the Department of Agriculture has taken steps to provide a monetary relief of Rs. 10,000 /- for domestic gardens on more than 20 perches of land.
Furthermore, the Director-General of Agriculture, Dr. Ajantha De Silva said that Rs. 5,000/- would be provided for gardening in a small area of less than 20 perches.
Moreover, he stated that plans are being made to provide seeds for this home gardening program which is being carried out under the support of the Government.
