Health Ministry to revise guidelines due to COVID-19 surge

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Health has decided to revise the existing health guidelines in view of the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the island.

The Deputy Director General of Health Services, Dr. Hemantha Herath stated that the new set of health guidelines will be issued on Monday (31).

Speaking to News 1st, Dr. Herath said that although a majority of people were carefully observing health regulations, certain people continue to disregard these guidelines which has led to yet another surge in case numbers.

The Deputy Director General of Health Services advised the public to act responsibly as the number of COVID-19 infections reported in the during the course of the next two weeks will largely depend on their behavior today.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health stated that the number of COVID 19 patients in the country has increased by 22% in comparison to the previous week.

Its technical services director, Dr. Anwar Hamdani says the COVID death toll had also risen by 5%.
