Gerandi Ella falls tragedy: Army & Navy join search operations

COLOMBO (News 1st); Police state that further operations are underway to locate a girl who went missing after a group went swimming for recreation at the Garandi ella falls in Bandarawela on Saturday (29).

A joint operation involving the Army and Navy is currently underway.

On Saturday (29), 4 people who were on a weekend outing drowned while swimming at the falls.

The deceased, 3 females and 1 male, were identified as those between the ages of 20 and 21.

According to reports, the victims were caught off guard by a strong current.

The search for a female youth, who was among the group continues.

Drowning accidents in Sri Lanka are becoming increasingly more frequent during weekends.
