Shortage of Cement will be rectified soon: Minister

COLOMBO (News 1st): There is a shortage of Cement in the domestic market at present according to consumers, and the Construction Industry is also facing severe difficulties, as a result of the Cement shortage.  Consumers charge that cement is sold in the market at different prices. "There is no Control Price on Cement at present. The price of a bag of Cement should be displayed on the packaging," Lasantha Alagiyawanna, the State Minister of Cooperative Services, Marketing Development and Consumer Protection told News 1st on Tuesday (Jan. 18). He emphasized that a bag of Cement cannot be sold exceeding the price displayed. According to State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna, the shortage of Cement in the market has been created due to technical difficulties faced by one of the main Cement manufacturers in the country and as the imports are affected by the dollar crisis. However, he noted that the prevailing situation could be rectified in the coming weeks.
