COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Power has planned to provide free solar panels to low-income earners.
The proposal in this regard was already approved by the Cabinet of Ministers and a program will be implemented from next week, Minister Gamini Lokuge noted.
Accordingly, solar panels that can generate 5W, 10W, and 15W of power will be provided to low-income earners and the solar panels will be installed free of charge as well.
“Moreover, around Rs. 1500 will be paid to those who receive the 5W solar panels. They could earn around Rs. 10,000 after about 10-years,” Minister Lokuge added.
These solar power panels will be installed at religious places as well.
“The programme will be initially launched with solar panels installed at one house per Grama Niladhari Division, meaning 14,000 houses will receive free solar panels under the initial stage of the programme,” Minister Gamini Lokuge said.
