COLOMBO (News 1st): The supply of water to the city of Colombo could be disrupted in the event of a power outage in the vicinity of the Ambatalale Water Treatment Plant, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, the Minister of Water Supply said on Saturday (Jan. 15). Whilst pointing out that the Ambatalale Water Treatment Plant is the main Water Supply Centre in the country, Minister Nanayakkara pointed out that an uninterrupted supply of power is required for the operation of water pumps, unlike the other treatment plants in the country, which are equipped with generators. "Therefore, in the event, there are power cuts in the vicinity of Ambatale Water Treatment Plant, water could only be supplied to Colombo via water bowsers," Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara further noted.
