MV X-PRESS PEARL: USD 2.15mn Compensation in two weeks

COLOMBO (News 1st): The first installment of the second compensation demanded by the Sri Lankan Government over the damages caused due to fire onboard the MV X-PRESS PEARL vessel, will be received within the next two weeks, the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) said on Friday (Jan. 14). Accordingly, compensation of USD $2.15 million will be paid, Attorney-at-Law Dharshani Lahandapura, the Chairperson of MEPA told News 1st. Documents have been prepared seeking compensation for the damages caused to the marine environment due to the fire onboard the X-PRESS PEARL, she further noted. According to MEPA Chairperson, 70 percent of the work to recover containers and other material that fell into the sea has been completed as of now.
