COLOMBO (News 1st): The academic activities at schools resumed on Monday (Jan. 10) as usual with all students required to attend in-person, the Ministry of Education said.

“Schools are resuming academic activities, as usual, today (10) after November 2020. Students can meet their classmates all at once starting today,” Prof. Kapila Perera, the Secretary to the Education Ministry said.

The Director-General of Health Services granted the approval to resume school activities as usual.

However, Prof. Kapila Perera urged the students to refrain from coming to school if they are ill or a contact of a COVID-19 patient.

A decision has been reached to close the school canteens since the Director-General of Health Service is yet to grant the approval in this regard, he further noted.

Education Secretary Prof. Kapila Perera urged the students, teachers and all involved parties to ensure that COVID-19 health guidelines are followed at all times.
