Walsapugala satyagraha reaches 17th day

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Walsapugala Satyagraha launched by farmers in Hambantota has reached its 17th day.

The protest is being staged 86 farmers organizations including the Walawa Left Bank United Farmers Organization, who are demanding a permanent solution for wild elephant encroachments.

The Satyagraha is being staged demanding the proper activation of the gazetted Hambantota Wild Elephant Management Reserve and directing wild elephants roaming the area threatening their lives and property, to the Gazetted Wildlife Sanctuary instead.

Meanwhile, a group of members of the Agrarian Movement visited the premises last night (05) and extended their support to the Satyagraha as well.
